– Harry V. Jaffa
The principal wish of every fine, noble country or state is peace and concord. Whatever places have acquired these priceless, indispensable gifts will thrive, flourish, and prosper. The constant thought of our government and its politicians should be how to conserve this peace. For us citizens, it would be our responsibility to safeguard this peace and harmony through liberty and justice. The peace that I speak of means: freedom from public disturbance and disorder, public security, and law and order. Our values are founded on the Declaration of Independence and our country’s Constitution. Most of us honor the Founders, respect the law, and have a common understanding of how to live our lives. But how do we truly obtain the great gift of peace and concord? And when we have established peace, how do we faithfully preserve it? Through Justice! But what is true Justice? Webster’s Dictionary defines justice as “The use of authority and power to uphold what is right, just, or lawful.” But in a deeper meaning, what is true Justice? Well, one must immerse oneself in the canon of great literature of Western civilization and study the great figures of our past. Looking back, one can understand that true Justice is “rendering unto all their due.” The Declaration of Independence declares that “all men are created equal,” so all are endowed with the “right” to Justice. This does not mean that Justice looks the same for all, it means all will receive Justice according to their actions. But how do we render Justice to our fellow countrymen? First off, we must have a political system that prevents one-man rule and tyranny. Second off, we must have a society that tends to uphold people of wisdom, integrity, honesty, hard work, virtue, and morality. Thirdly, we must have these sorts of people run our government so that they can deal out true justice unto all. How did we lose the peace that the Founders instituted? The Founders created this nation with the hope that all generations to come would honor and uphold the principles upon which America was founded. But as we can see, many have strayed from that vision, openly treading on American values. We must realize that the Founders are not responsible for this. To begin with, they drew up documents in which they introduced the principles on which America could flourish. This was the first step to uniting us as a country. We all shared common principles, written out in the Constitution. They wisely established the three branches of government – judicial, legislative, and executive – with free election. And our Government’s duty was to insure that it seek after justice. As James Madison said, “Justice is the end of government. It is the end of civil society. It ever has been and ever will be pursued until it be obtained, or until liberty be lost in the pursuit.” For the first time in history our government was made up from the people. The Founders framed our government so that any qualified person had a chance to run for desired offices, and one was free to vote for whomever one pleased. In short, they gave us all the tools for political prosperity. For the first hundred years as a country, we prospered – because we heeded the words of the Declaration and Constitution. Our citizens respected Americas principles, we overcame our struggles, and often we had the light of the Founders to guide us. We must remember that no country is perfect, and no country will last forever. How long America will last, I know not. Many think it will fall soon (I personally am skeptical of that thought), but we must remember that our country has had troubles before. We have had the Constitution attacked before. I believe that this particular assault began in the middle of the twentieth century, when many started to blatantly trample on the Founder’s principles. The freedom that we enjoy as one of the greatest country’s on earth is a legacy of what the Founders wrought and Lincoln preserved. Yet, today that legacy has been thrust aside and debased, while something called “political correctness” -in which wisdom is mocked and virtue is scorned- has been propelled into its place. It will take a long and hard struggle to reclaim our inheritance from the grasp of foreign thought. I think this ideology has prospered for multiple reasons. Socialism and liberalism has infected our public and higher education. When problems confront us as a country, we often don’t look back to the original purpose set forth by our Founders, in order to help solve the problem. The normal way of life that past generations respected is now being destroyed. Our leaders have rewritten history, so that they can blind us to what they are doing, just as every tyrannical government has done. No longer can anyone freely voice his opinion if it is not hand in hand with the popular political agenda. Our rights are slowly being taken away with the pretext that it is for our “public safety.” When will we wake up to the realization that it’s time to say NO MORE? When do we resist in order to save our country? If not now, when? Our country is rapidly going downhill. As Lincoln said, “Our republican robe is soiled, and trailed in the dust. Let us re-purify it. Let us turn and wash it white, in the spirit, if not the blood, of the revolution.” Too long have we been silent, too long have we gone lock step with our degenerate government. It’s time to stand together and restore peace through justice, with freedom for all. The first step is to raise virtuous, hard-working people of integrity, so that we leave behind us a strong, healthy generation not afraid to rise up and destroy tyranny. John Adams said, “It should be your care, therefore, and mine, to elevate the minds of our children and exalt their courage; to accelerate and animate their industry and activity; to excite in them an habitual contempt of meanness, abhorrence of injustice and inhumanity, and an ambition to excel in every capacity, faculty, and virtue. If we suffer their minds to grovel and creep in infancy, they will grovel all their lives.” Our second step is to cleanse the government of all the corrupt, bought, lying, “professional” politicians through free elections and unhindered voting. We then in turn must find honest men and women and vote them into political office. The words of Harry Jaffa are very powerful on free election:” To be a fellow citizen means not only to be able accept the results of free election but also to be willing to fight to preserve, protect, and defend the regime of free elections. ” For my part, I cannot stress enough how essential it is to protect free election. This is how we re-purify our government and keep at bay those who would seek to destroy our country. If we lose freedom of election, then we will soon lose all of our other rights. We cannot stand for fraudulent elections. If we all rise together, we shall be heard. Thirdly, we must change our country’s political regime. Today, I believe that our government does not care about Justice or Peace, nor do they honor our rights. So why do we so often live under the illusion that they are there to protect us and watch out for our public well being? Sadly, you can no longer count on the government to defend our constitutional rights. It seems that only real goal of the current regime is to enforce what is “politically correct” and control our every action. Our government should be made up of wise men who don’t have power over our every movement. The Founders created government to help keep us secure and guard our rights. The beauty of our republic is that we can chose our own government officials through free election. As Benjamin Rush said, “To look up to a government that establishes justice , insures order, cherishes virtue, secures property, and protects from every species of violence, affords a pleasure, that can only be exceeded by looking up in all circumstances to an overruling providence. Such a pleasure I hope is before us, and our posterity under the influence of the new government.” Let us all start practicing the great qualities that our ever memorable heroes perfected. Let us promote and teach them to all the citizens of this glorious resplendent nation. What is the intention of Shafts of Justice? “We cannot define our tasks by our powers, for our powers become known to us through performing our tasks; it is better to fail nobly then to succeed basely.” – Harry V. Jaffa Our aim is to shine forth the light to help rebuild America, and to motivate our fellow citizens to share it and beam forth the light to all them. We intend to reintroduce the ideas that had – and still have – the power to destroy tyranny and allow Peace and Justice to reign. “Let every American, every lover of liberty, every well wisher to his prosperity, swear by the blood of the Revolution, never to violate in the least particular, the laws of the country; and never to tolerate their violation by others. As the patriots of seventy-six did to the support of the Constitution and Laws, let every American pledge his life, his property, and his sacred honor;-let every man remember that to violate the law, is to trample on the blood of his father, and to tear the character of his own, and his children’s liberty.” – Abraham Lincoln We want to present to you the old ideals of the Founders and make them once again a living, breathing reality. We want to re-shape this country so that once again America shines as an luminous star in the vast cosmos. But this cannot happen if we don’t study the Founders and understand the principles they laid forth. We will be encouraging you all to see the light presented in our articles and forth coming journal-pamphlets to help bring back the true America, untainted and in its original form! “And may that Being who is supreme over all, the Patron of Order, the Fountain of Justice, and the Protector in all ages of the world of virtuous liberty, continue His blessing upon this nation and its Government and give it all possible success and duration consistent with the ends of His providence.” – John AdamsOur Mission
“For this writing is, in part at least, the writing of those who see the beacon in the midst of tyranny and learn how to find those around them who also yearn for the end of tyranny, how to communicate with them, and how to teach them, and how to strengthen their souls. But those who carry on the works of humanity humbly need to look backward towards those beacons, that their fellow men may also some day once again see the light. And those who hold up those beacons, even if they fall in battle, shall not be forgotten. Their memory shall not parish from the earth. For the ground of noble action itself lives not in time, but in eternity.”
